Our story begins in the early 1990’s with a piece of land that contained both natural beauty and great potential. Steven L. Ward of GolfPlan Associates was contracted to design a golf course that would do the property justice. The design was completed and presented to the partners.
The plan consisted of an 18-hole championship golf course complete with a full practice facility as well as a residential community of thirty estate lots surrounding the golf course. The process was started and government approvals began to be obtained.
In the spring of 1999 a new partner, with 12 years of golf course construction and management experience, came onboard and the wheels of progress started to turn. In his words “I looked at millions of acres but this location had golf course written all over it”. Construction began immediately.
A contractor was selected to work with the golf course architect and the partners to build “Timber Ridge Golf Course”. Trees were cleared, earth moved and the tee decks, fairways, and greens began to take shape. The dream that was envisioned over a decade earlier was put into motion.
After overcoming many obstacles both man made and those produced by Mother Nature, the construction phase was completed in 2000. The course was given a full year to grow in before opening for public play August 2001. Since opening day the golf course has received great reviews including being listed as a “Hidden Gem” in Ontario Golf News, being nominated for Golf Digest’s “Best New Canadian Golf Course” as well as listed as a “Must Play” in Toronto Life Magazine.
This scenic 18-hole course is situated among the rolling hills of Northumberland County just east of Warkworth, Ontario, Canada. The course is well manicured with mature trees, sand traps, water hazards and large sculptured greens.
Warkworth Golf Club is only 1 hour 30 minutes hours east of Toronto, west from Kingston 1 hour 15 minutes, east from Newcastle 45 minutes and 35 minutes from Belleville, Peterborough & Cobourg.
